Tomorrow's Mathematicians Today is a conference where undergraduate mathematicians present to their peers mathematics which has excited them, and where delegates are inspired by the mathematical enthusiasms of fellow undergraduates. Examples might be material in their curriculum, individual or group project work, or topics they have come across in outside reading. Ideally presentations should be accessible to a first year mathematics undergraduate. One of the joys of the conference is always the wide range of subjects covered!
Presenters will be able to gain valuable experience and insights into the world of conferences. This should be a wonderfully enjoyable day of inspiring maths.
Undergraduates are invited to apply to present a short (20 minute max including questions) talk on any mathematical topic of their choosing. Abstracts, giving an overview of the proposed talk and the title of the talk, should be limited to 200 words.
Abstracts should be sent to us at tmt@gre.ac.uk by 1pm on Friday 10 January 2025. Candidates will be informed of the result of their application by early February 2025.
The deadline has passed. The call for papers has closed and the panel's decision on submissions will be passed to applicants soon. The successful abstracts will be published on the Abstracts page of this website in due course,
GCHQ are generously sponsoring the Prize for the Best Undergraduate Presentation and a "popular vote" prize to be voted for by the audience. In previous years speakers were asked to apply to be considered for the Prize for the Best Presentation, and were shortlisted on the basis of their applications. The application process may have deterred some presenters for applying to be considered, so for TMT2025 all presentations at the conference will be eligible for this prize, with no separate application process. The judging panel will include all session chairs. Speakers will not have to submit a separate application in order to be considered for the prize.
Successful abstracts will be published on this website along with the name and university of the speaker. The conference website will remain after the event as a record of the conference. By submitting an abstract you are indicating that you consent to this publication of your personal information.
The information you provide will be used only to communicate with you regarding arrangements for the conference. Your data will be held securely and (unless you are a speaker) the personal information will be deleted after the event. Anonymous data on universities participating in the event will be retained. Names and universities of speakers and titles and abstracts of talks will be published on this website, and will be retained as a permanent record of the event unless you ask for removal of your details.
