Research Topics, we are working on:

 The main research areas are electric vehicle battery joining, battery thermal management system, safety, automotive body-in-white welding: 

1. Joining technologies for Li-ion batteries/Fuel Cells

• Cell, module, pack level joining - Simulation and modeling of critical-to-quality criteria, dissimilar materials welding

• Li-ion battery/Fuel cell joining - including Laser welding, micro-resistance/projection welding, micro-TIG welding, ultrasonic welding, ultrasonic wire bonding, laser ribbon welding, micro-clinching, etc.

• Battery cooling solutions – active and passive battery cooling systems, the safety of the battery pack

2. Automotive body-in-white joining

• Lightweight welding of  sheet metal and structural parts welding - including Laser welding, resistance spot welding, self-piercing riveting, and other welding techniques 

• Fixturing and tooling – the enabler for efficient welding

• Modelling and simulations of various joining processes – to predict joint performance

3. Quality control 

• Quality control and process monitoring – closed-loop in-process quality control, root cause analysis, preventive and corrective measures
