During this session, Zach and Mary Ben of Bidii Baby Foods, shared their knowledge on early childhood access to traditional foods, community health, and the creation of their business. Zach and Mary are passionate parents and farmers seeking to build a sustainable baby food business that nourishes their children with organic ancestral foods, and they're working to make sure these foods are available to young children across the Navajo Nation. Bidii Baby Foods operates 30 acres of agricultural land in Shiprock, NM and grows a variety of Indigenous crops, including corn, squash, melons, amaranth grain and more, which is then processed into traditional baby food products in Gallup, NM.
Zach and Mary joined our Peruvian colleague Vicenta Cahuana Huillca, a Quechuan leader in rural women's organizations and farmer, who shared with us her preparation of traditional corn-based foods and drinks. Also joining the call was Indalecio Tito Tito, a Quechua farmer, trainer, and apiarist who will be talking with us about the challenges that honey production faces in the highlands of Cusco in the face of climate change.
