Amanda Godley is a professor of English Education and Language, Literacy and Culture at the University of Pittsburgh and a former middle and high school English teacher. Her research focuses on equity, dialect diversity, classroom discourse, and writing instruction in high school English classes. Her current projects focus on integrating knowledge about dialect diversity into English Language Arts classes, improving students’ peer review and revision of academic writing, and developing computer-based systems to analyze classroom talk and provide helpful feedback to teachers and students. Dr. Godley’s research has been funded by the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the Spencer Foundation. Dr. Godley is the author of Critical Language Pedagogy: Interrogating Language, Dialects and Power in Teacher Education (2018, Peter Lang). Her research has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Educational Researcher, Reading Research Quarterly, Research in the Teaching of English, Linguistics and Education, and Urban Education.
