Openings
Openings
Our research group has openings for postdoctoral researchers, Ph.D. students, and M.S. students who are interested in developing intelligent and sustainable solutions for environmental and energy systems.
Our research focuses on integrating environmental engineering, process systems engineering, artificial intelligence, optimization, control, and digital twins to solve practical problems in wastewater treatment, environmental monitoring, renewable energy systems, and biological/environmental applications.
We are looking for highly motivated researchers who are interested in both fundamental methodology development and real-world applications. Applicants from environmental engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, control, and related disciplines are welcome.
Available Research Areas
Environmental Process Modeling & Digital Twins — mathematical modeling, physics-informed AI, process simulation, model calibration, and digital twin development for environmental systems.
Environmental Systems Engineering — process optimization, reinforcement learning, autonomous control, fault-tolerant operation, and sustainable environmental process operation.
Renewable Energy Systems — renewable energy forecasting, RE100 and net-zero strategies, energy management, and techno-economic optimization.
Environmental Big Data & AI — time-series forecasting, multimodal learning, anomaly detection, soft sensors, explainable AI, and environmental risk prediction.
Environmental Computer Vision & Bio-Vision-AI — object detection, segmentation, tracking, behavioral analysis, disease detection, and smart aquaculture applications.
Applicants from related disciplines, including chemical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, data science, and other relevant fields, are also welcome.
Qualifications
Postdoctoral Researchers
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, systems engineering, or a related field by the expected start date.
A strong background in one or more of the following areas is preferred: machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, process modeling, optimization, control, computer vision, environmental systems, or energy systems.
Experience in programming and scientific computing using Python or related tools is highly desirable. Candidates are also expected to communicate effectively, conduct independent research, and collaborate on interdisciplinary and industry-oriented projects.
Graduate Students
Applicants should have a strong interest in conducting independent research at the intersection of environmental engineering and artificial intelligence.
Students with backgrounds in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, control, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Prior experience in programming, machine learning, process modeling, optimization, or numerical analysis is beneficial but not mandatory.
Students will have opportunities to participate in research projects involving real environmental datasets, process modeling, deep learning, digital twins, reinforcement learning, and environmental monitoring.
Experience in programming and scientific computing using Python or related tools is highly desirable
Undergraduate Students
We do not accept internship applicants or undergraduate students unless they plan to continue into a graduate program in our group.
