If you are new to editing audio we recommend using the free, cross-platform audio editor, Audacity. If you have access to a Mac, we recommend trying out GarageBand.

If you have recorded your podcast using a video conferencing tool such (e.g. Zoom, Teams), your recording may be a video file (e.g. ending in ".mp4"). If this is the case you will have to separate the video and audio files. This is a fairly simple process and there are a few options for removing the video:
VLC is a free media player that works on Windows or Mac computers. It also lets you convert media types. Read this guide on how to save a video as an audio-only file.
Windows users can also use this free app to convert video files to mp3 audio.
Mac users can easily convert video files to audio-only files using the QuickTime Player pre-installed on all Mac computers. Simply open the video file in QuickTime Player and go to File > Export As > Audio Only...
