Google Analytics Notice

The Idea Lab uses Google Analytics to help us understand how people use our site.

It is important to us that you know why we collect data and what information we do and don’t collect.

Why we collect data:

  • To improve our web resources and services
  • To capture Idea Lab activity outside of our workshops and studio bookings
  • To better understand our site visitors:
    • How they get to our sites (e.g. library website, Blackboard course)
    • What technology they use (Mac or PC, mobile or desktop)
    • What pages are visited the most

The data we collect includes:

  • What links people click on to get to our sites
  • Which of our pages are visited
  • How long people stay on our pages
  • What type of operating system are used
  • What browsers people use
  • The screen resolution being used
  • What city our site visitors are in

The data we do NOT collect includes:

  • Username or account information (e.g. Google, Facebook)
  • Personalized advertising preferences
  • Demographic information (e.g. age, gender)
  • Geographic data more precise than your city (e.g. postal code or street level)
  • What websites you are visiting other than sites that link to our web pages (e.g. Blackboard, Humber Libraries)

The only time we share data with a third-party is if we need technical support from Google.

Opt-out

If you use a browser plug-in such as Privacy Badger or Duck Duck Go you will be able to look at the list of trackers (including Google Analytics) on the site you are visiting and disable them.

Google created its own browser plug-in that you can use to opt-out of and prevent Google Analytics from using your data.
