Dear Members of the IDA Kansas-Missouri Branch,
Good afternoon! I’m excited to share several important updates and opportunities happening across our organization.
First, we are thrilled to announce that our fearless leader, Allison Winters, has been selected to serve as the Midwest Region Representative on the IDA Branch Council Executive Committee! In this new role, Allison will guide and support the branches in Indiana, Iowa, Kansas-Missouri, Michigan, Upper Midwest, Wisconsin, and Illinois. While she’s stepping up to serve at the national level, she’s not far away—and we know she’ll represent our region with passion and dedication.
We’ve also made some updates to improve how we communicate with you! Our email system has been upgraded with new, streamlined addresses, allowing messages to be directed to the appropriate board members who can respond promptly. You’ll find these new email addresses listed to the side, and you can expect a response within 48 hours of your inquiry.
As we look ahead, please note that our Board of Directors' terms conclude on June 1st, and we will soon welcome new leaders to the team. Be on the lookout for an email later this month (or early next month) with details about the board member vote. Our Annual Meeting will take place on May 20th at 5:30 PM, where final voting will occur. We hope you'll participate in shaping the future of our branch!
We’re also thrilled to officially launch our 2025 Annual Conference: L.E.A.D. – Literacy, Equity, and Advocacy for Dyslexia, scheduled for September 26–27 at Pittsburg State University.

We are currently accepting session proposals to fill the breakout discussions.

This year, we’re excited to add a special Saturday morning round table to provide even more opportunities for engagement and learning.
Finally, we’re launching a membership drive! As awareness of dyslexia continues to grow, so does the need for support, advocacy, and education. By expanding our membership, we can reach more educators, parents, students, and advocates across Kansas and Missouri. If you know someone who may benefit from our resources or would like to join our mission, please share our information with them. Your help in spreading the word is greatly appreciated.
If you have questions or suggestions on how we can better support you or your community, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at general@idaksmo.com.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our mission.
All the best,
Emily Henley
