In this session, we will discuss how intervention systems can be leveraged for academic success while also considering the social challenges that are associated with a reading disability. Participants will not only learn about these things, but also simulate the processes behind reading (including the breakdown for a student with a reading disability), as well as experience a fraction of the social stigmas and pressure an older student with a foundational reading weakness may experience in the classroom. The session's focus is to integrate academic and social supports, and will examine the cause-and-effect cycle that links reading success to both internalized and externalized behaviors.
