Youth Art Month
We are excited to renew Youth Art Month (YAM) in Idaho this year! Youth Art Month is a month devoted to celebrating the Arts and advocating for Visual Arts Education. There are many ways to get involved. IAEA is proud to announce that we will be hosting a flag design contest with cash prizes for students and teachers within each region, in addition to a Grand Prize for the overall state winner. The winning design will be made into a flag for display at the NAEA convention, representing Idaho! Get ready for more information and begin thinking of how you want to promote this awesome experience with your students.
What is Youth Art Month?
Youth Art Month was started in 1961. It is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art and art education for all children and to encourage public support for quality school arts programs. The National Art Education Association, as a national sponsor through the Council for Art Education, administers the program at a national level, and the Idaho Art Education Association administers the program at the state level. The program provides a medium for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences unlike any other curriculum subjects, including: Problem Solving, Creativity, Observation, and Communication.

What is the YOUTH ART MONTH Flag Art Competition?
Youth Art Month is a celebration of the visual arts! Using the national theme of “Healing through Color,” each state coordinates a flag design contest. The winning design is made into a 3’ x 5’ flag for display in the Youth Art Month Museum at the National Art Education Association (NAEA) annual National Convention, held this spring in Louisville, Kentucky.
