There are many premium level hotels (3/4/5-star) all around Kolkata.  We would recommend three different zones where there are a number of hotel options and are also easily reachable from ISI. 

Newtown / Salt Lake / Airport area:  Following are a few premium level hotels that are located in Newtown-Rajarhat area. This location is quite near to airport as well as ISI and are accessible mostly by cabs (Uber/Ola)

Central Business District Area: Following is a list of some 3,4-star hotels in the Park Street area. This area, although a bit further than Newtown and in a much more central area to Kolkata, is very much accessible by Metro. There are metros running to and from Park Street to Baranagar (station close to ISI). Moreover, Park Street area is full of heritage as well as modern day restaurants and bars (Peter Cat, Mocambo,etc).

Around ISI: 

Although there not much premium level hotels or stays around ISI Kolkata, one can find budget stays here, especially around the Dakshineswar area. Dakshineswar is one bus/metro ride away from the bus stops/stations serving the ISI Kolkata campus.
