Hello!
We (Drs. Pauline Schmidt & Matthew Kruger-Ross) are engaging in a year-long research project on arts- and place-based pedagogies in the secondary education classroom. We are calling this year-long project "PSTs Study Local".
We are interested in exploring the questions:
We have received funding to support at least three experiences for up to 10 secondary education students. The funding would include transportation costs, admission/tickets to museums and exhibits, and housing for overnight trips. There are other costs during each experience ($20 for a meal, for example), but do not let this deter you. These three experiences (described below) are meant to provide future secondary teachers with immersive encounters with the arts, from theater to sculpture and everything in between.
In addition to participating in each of the experiences, you will be required to attend both a pre- and post-meeting (where there will be food!) and an individual interview with us. The pre-meeting will be formatted as a workshop to introduce the entirety of the experience, the research, additional resources, and so on. The post-meeting will include a focus group where we will reflect on the experiences together. We will also want to interview individuals at various points throughout the year to check-in on what they are learning.
If you are interested in participating in this year-long study:
Ensure that you can participate in all of the experiences.
Be aware that you are also agreeing to at least three additional meetings:

Draft a statement describing how participation in this research will help you develop as a future educator.
What is your background and why are you interested in this?
What do you hope to get out of this experience?
Submit this statement in this Google Form that also includes some basic demographic questions by Friday, September 15, 2023.
Let us know if you have questions or concerns and we look forward to your participation!
