🌍 Our Purpose

Rooted in the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching, the Justice and Peace (J&P) Ministry promotes action for justice, peace, and the integrity of creation as an essential part of the Church’s evangelising mission across Southern Africa’s 29 dioceses. 📖 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” — Matthew 5:9

🕊️ Our Mandate

• 👁️ Raise awareness of suffering, injustice, division, and violence in our communities—and inspire transformation. 📖 “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves… defend the rights of the poor and needy.” — Proverbs 31:8–9

• 📢 Educate and empower people to understand the causes of poverty and the social implications of faith in all areas of life—including care for the environment. 📖 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me… to bring good news to the poor.” — Luke 4:18

• ⚖️ Promote a just society where the dignity and rights of all—especially the poor, women, and the marginalized—are upheld. 📖 “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” — Amos 5:24

• 🕯️ Advocate within the Church for justice and peace, supporting the poor and oppressed, and advising on justice-related issues. 📖 “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.” — Isaiah 1:17

• 🌿 Protect creation and promote environmental justice as part of our sacred duty. 📖 “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden… to work it and take care of it.” — Genesis 2:15

• 👩‍👧 Support women’s voices in society and in the Church, especially on matters of justice, dignity, and participation. 📖 “There is neither Jew nor Greek… male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” — Galatians 3:28

• 🧹 Address injustice within the Church, so that it may be a credible witness to the Gospel it proclaims. 📖 “Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye…?” — Matthew 7:3
