A Catechist is more than a teacher—they are a faith companion, entrusted with the sacred task of guiding others into a deeper relationship with Christ. Rooted in the Gospel and nurtured by prayer, Catechists help form the hearts and minds of children, youth, and adults alike.
🕊️ Role and Responsibilities
🙏 Faith Formation Catechists guide others in discovering the truths of the Catholic faith, helping them grow in love and understanding of God. 📖 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” — Matthew 28:19–20
🌱 Spiritual Companioning They walk alongside learners, nurturing their personal journey with Christ and encouraging a vibrant, lived faith. 📖 “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?” — Luke 24:32
💬 Witness to Christ Through their actions and words, Catechists reflect the Gospel message and serve as living examples of Christ’s love. 📖 “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
🏡 Creating a Sacred Space They foster a welcoming, respectful, and prayerful environment where faith can flourish. 📖 “Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” — Matthew 18:20
🕊️ Sacramental Preparation Catechists accompany individuals preparing for the Sacraments, offering teaching, support, and spiritual encouragement. 📖 “They were baptized… and devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” — Acts 2:41–42
📚 Lifelong Learning They remain open to the Holy Spirit, deepening their own understanding of Scripture and Church teaching. 📖 “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.” — 1 Peter 3:15
đź’« A Calling, Not Just a Task
This ministry is a calling of the heart. A Catechist doesn’t simply impart information—they help awaken a living faith. Their mission is to echo the Word of God with compassion, clarity, and joy.

The Catechists Pray together
Loving God, Creator of all things,
You call us to be in relationship with you and others.Â
Thank you for calling me to be a catechist,
For the opportunity to share with othersÂ
What you have given to me,
May all those with whom I share the gift of faithÂ
Discover how you are present in all things.
May they come to know you, the one true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
May the grace of the Holy Spirit guide my hear and my lips,Â
so that I may remain constant in loving and praising you.Â
May I be a witness to the Gospel and a minister of your truthÂ
May all my words and actions reflect your love.Â
Amen
The Jubilee Prayer
Father in heaven, may the faith you have given us
in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within
both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.
Amen
