A brief description of the workshop

The 4rd Workshop on “Digital Game-Based Leaning and Gamification Instructional Strategies for K-12 Schools” will be held on fully online along with ICCE 2020 from November 23rd to 27th, 2020 .

The theme of this workshop is the applications of Game-based Learning and Gamification Instructional strategy in elementary and high school. These applications including designing and employing digital education games, as well as the theoretical development, educational game demonstrations, empirical studies, case studies, action researches and practices of adapting technology with gamification mechanisms in elementary and high school education. This workshop would be organized in varied formats of research presentation, including oral presentations or live demonstrations of the proposed educational games. Researchers, elementary and high school teachers as well as practitioners in education related industries are welcome to attend this workshop.

In the recent global educational revolution, employing digital educational games to teaching, or adapting information technology to gamified teaching activity have been the trending and significant research and practice subjects. Digital game-based learning emphasize on the design and deployment of digital educational games to support teaching. Meanwhile, gamification focused on employing the game mechanisms and elements (such as points, badge, interaction design etc.) to transform the learning activity to a game. Gamified learning is not only helpful in strengthening learning motivation and performance; it can also promote critical abilities of learners, such as problem solving, collaboration, communication, and strategic thinking etc. Despite there are many game-based learning related studies, how to employ these findings to the teaching practices in elementary and high school requires further inquiry and scrutinize. At the same time, facilitating the communication and interaction among academic researchers, elementary and high school teachers as well as the educational practitioners can also bridge the gap between academic research and teaching practices. In this regard, this workshop looks for research, design and development of digital educational games, practices that employing gamification to the elementary and high school teaching, experiences sharing and live demonstrations of educational games. Other topics related to game-based learning and gamification in education are also welcome.
