Welcome!
This is a look at how I view movies once they've had time to sit in my brain. The format is less of a "review" and more of a breakdown/commentary because I like to be thorough about media. Giving the equivalent of a thumbs up or down isn't nearly as fun for me.
I'll explain the events as they unfold, and "pause" on something I find worthwhile to comment on. I try to keep things light and humorous so hopefully you can have a bit of fun while reading. Think of me as the heckler in the seat next to you as you're watching the film.
At the end I'll give a more formal assessment of the film's quality based on everything we went over., The summation will be directly informed by the breakdown, so it might be worthwhile to have all the context first, though you're more than welcome to use that section as a TL;DR.
My foundational pillars for writing assessment are:
Plot - The sequence of events and how they play out. How cohesive is this narrative? How well does it flow? How naturally do the events play out?
Character - Our agents of the story. How compelling are they? How strongly are they written? Are they consistent?
World - Our setting for the story. How believable is it? How consistent is it with itself and the story at hand?
Theme - The ideas presented by the story. How fully-realized are they? Are they supported by the text?
These are all scored out of ten, then an overall score is calculated from the average. I'll then give my own personal, subjective take on the film :)
With all that said, here's the archived list of the films I've covered!
