Glyco26

Glyco26 is the 26th International Glycoconjugate Symposium (IGS) organized under the auspices of International Glycoconjugate Organization (IGO). The first ever Symposium was held in 1964 and the second one in 1973. Since then, it was held every two years without interruption until 2021, the year in which Glyco26 was originally scheduled to take place in Taipei, Taiwan. When the COVID-19 pandemic swept the globe starting in early 2020, the IGO and the organizers of Glyco26 collectively decided to defer it to 2023 in favor of an in-person interactive format instead of a virtual meeting.  It will now be held at Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan from August 27 to September 1, 2023.

Galectin Symposium

This satellite meeting of the Glyco26 conference will address the roles of galectins in cellular responses associated with physiological and pathological processes. The field of galectins has advanced extensively since the naming of this family of animal lectins in 1994. Now there are over 16 members that have been identified and studied, with some of them, in particular, galectin-1, -3, -4, -7, -8, -9, -10, and -12 being studied more extensively. As of March 2023, over 10,000 papers can be captured in PubMed search using the keyword “galectin”. Many studies have implicated galectins in the pathogenesis of a variety of diseases. In the meantime, the field is becoming increasingly complicated, with galectins being demonstrated to function both extracellularly and intracellularly, and in the latter, in both glycan-dependent and -independent fashions. This meeting is aimed at bringing together molecular and cellular biologists and glycoscientists to address modes of action of various galectins and discuss challenges and opportunities. We plan to have two keynote lectures, several invited talks, and short oral presentations selected from abstracts submitted for poster presentation.

Cell Biology Core

Training Course series

Dear participants,

We warmly welcome you to join the educational training organized by the Cell Biology Core Facility of the Institute of Biochemistry, Academia Sinica. The main focus of this training will be on the integration and application of Glycobiology, Metabolomics, and Single-Cell Transcriptomics analysis techniques.

Glycobiology and metabolomics have long been important research areas in the field of cell biology, investigating the regulation mechanisms of cellular carbohydrate metabolism and changes in metabolites on organismal functions. Single-cell transcriptomics, on the other hand, is a cutting-edge technology that allows transcriptome analysis at the single-cell level, revealing cellular heterogeneity and diversity. In this training, we will explore the cross-application and practical case studies of these three fields of knowledge and techniques.

We have invited expert speakers to provide in-depth lectures and practical demonstrations, introducing the latest research advances and experimental techniques. Interactive learning environments will be provided, allowing you to gain a deep understanding of the contents and applications of these frontier fields. You will also have the opportunity to exchange and collaborate with peers from different fields, expanding your academic network.

We look forward to your participation in this training, where we can jointly explore the integration and application of Glycobiology, Metabolomics, and Single-Cell Transcriptomics, and gain valuable learning and networking opportunities.

Thank you.

Cell Biology Core Facility, Institute of Biochemistry, Academia Sinica.
