East High school uses "EH IB" classes as our honors-level classes. It's true that IB classes are academically rigorous and prepare you for post-secondary school, but they are much more than that...
In IB, we're learning how to learn.
In all EH IB and IB classes, we master the content with a focus on students' Approaches to Learning. Along with the high-level content, students will:
Learn to communicate, both written and aloud, in all classes.
Think deeply about the content and justify their reasoning.
Build research skills in a variety of contexts.
Take responsibility for their own learning.
Be part of an encouraging classroom community.
IB students aren't just in a set of classes.
IB is a full program, with teachers who regularly meet and discuss student outcomes. Your History teacher knows what books are being read in English; your Science teacher knows what Math skills you're developing. We work together to provide a well-rounded, cohesive education. The more IB classes you take, the more you see these connections develop.
IB encourages student growth beyond a list of content.
As IB learners, we (students and teachers) strive to be:
Inquirers
Knowledgable
Thinkers
Communicators
Principled
Open-Minded
Caring
Risk-Takers
Balanced
Reflective
Depending on where you live and the number of classes you're interested in taking, we may ask you to fill out an application. That information can be found here.
