Choosing the right subjects at IGCSE will have an impact on the subjects that you will have the opportunity to study for your International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), University Graduate Degree as well as the career paths that will be open to you. What career path do I want to take?
This doesn't mean that you have to decide what job you are going to do for the rest of your life right now, but it would be good to think of the general area of expertise or industry that you'd like to work in, so that you don't miss out on the subjects that you need to study for the career that you will be happy in.
Which IBDP subjects do I want to study?
In two years time, you will again be thinking about a choice of subjects to take for a major educational course. It is important to understand the choices that you will have at that stage so that you can give yourself a smooth transition from IGCSE to IBDP.
Which subjects am I good at?
During your time in Year 7 and 8, you have had the opportunity to study many of the subjects that are on offer for IGCSE. It's generally a good idea to continue with subjects where you have previously achieved good grades, as it's likely that you will continue to do well and achieve strong grades in your final IGCSE examinations.
Which subjects do I enjoy?
If you find that you look forward to some lessons, while dreading others, you don't need to be too clever to understand that choosing the subjects that you enjoy will make your time in Year 10 and 11 a much happier experience.

There are some subjects that are too fundamental and integral to your education, so you must continue studying them at IGCSE level.
Mathematics, English and Science have long been widely regarded as the three cornerstones of a modern education. Therefore, you will continue to study these subjects at IGCSE. That being said, it is important to remember that there are different courses within each of the three subjects, so that you can still study material that will give you the greatest chance for success.
