The Tech4Good Lab at UCSC focuses on research in the area of social computing, exploring the intersection between computational and social systems. Read more about the Tech4Good Lab here: https://tech4good.soe.ucsc.edu/.
My research work lay in the area of Participatory Program Evaluation and Design, where I contributed directly to the 'Research Explorations' program at UCSC, a program that supports early-career undergraduate students interested in research, but unsure of where they should go or where their interests lie. In this role, I aided in the design of multiple iterations of interactive 'Paper Discussion' whiteboards for students to present and reflect on their assigned reading papers, individual whiteboard elements promoting student interaction, as well as mid-quarter reflection dashboards, gauging student experience and opinion of undergraduate research and the program.
Below are some examples of my contributions!
This is an example a weekly paper discussion board, designed for to promote conversation between presenters and non-presenters on papers regarding their exploratory reading topic.
A dashboard that allows students to reflect on current and past student opinion on the research explorations program. Data points of note are demographics, overall satisfaction, course impact, and outcomes of the program.
A component of the most recent iteration of the mid-quarter reflection board (still under development). Modeled to replicate a "tier list" widely known and used around the internet, this component is designed for students to suggest and rank exploratory reading topics that they'd like to see in the future as topics offered in the program.
