Side Project: Improving Transit Signage for a Better Passenger Experience
While riding around public transit in the Bay Area, I noticed key major usability issues that could significantly harm the customer experience. Specifically:
At Chinatown Muni Metro Station in San Francisco (a terminating station), there are commonly two trains stopped with door opens to passengers, however, there was no way to determine which train would depart the station first.
After visting Japan, I observed that Passenger Information Displays in America lack critical details compared to systems found, for example, on JR West, such as train type, key stops, and wayfinding cues.
As a fun side project, I tried my hand at mocking up and designing these systems to provide an improved experience for riders like me.
