We're trying to do more than just educate students on the safe use of social media. We want to build a movement of amplifying voices in Adult Basic Education. By educating students about their rights and giving them a platform to share what they have to say, we hope to build awareness of who ABE serves and what our needs are (teachers and students). But we need your help to make that happen.
Please share this project with other teachers and programs. We all have teachers we rely on for support and inspiration. By sharing this project one https://www.facebook.com/MNIamABE/ teacher at a time, we can get the word out across the United States.
This statement has gotten a great deal of attention and support, even beyond the borders of our state. While the language reflects our geography, IamABE invites ABE organizations and professionals outside the state of MN to sign this statement in solidarity, and to actively reflect on opportunities for the most relevant applications of similar commitments in their own areas of practice.
ABE Affinity Groups
“Affinity groups” are gathering opportunities for people who share a common experience or identity. Please choose a group only if you personally belong to its community; however, the Anti-Racism group is open to all!
Affinity groups will be led independently by ABE professionals, but may collaborate with ABE agencies in the future (i.e. MDE, LAN, ATLAS, etc.)
Because our identities are intersectional, ABE professionals are likely to feel drawn to more than one affinity group. That’s ok! You can choose to participate in more than one group over time, or suggest introducing a new one--for this introductory session, please choose one group to get started with. Complete this interest form if you’d like to be contacted about future meetings of any other affinity groups or to start another group.
Several teachers and a student from a school in Minneapolis met with Representative Karen Clark. (2018)
Did you or your class miss the Day on the Hill? You can still make your voice heard!
Find out who your legislators are by typing in your address: https://www.gis.leg.mn/iMaps/districts/
You can email, call, write a letter to, or visit your Senator and/or Representative to let them know why ABE is important to you.
