Description of Artwork:
Elephants remind me of villages in India.
The elephant drape speaks of impressions from rural India. Raw and rustic. Paints and textiles. Unprimed canvas.
Swati Rastogi is an artist of Indian origin who now lives in San Francisco Bay Area. From the time she remembers, art has always been more than a passion for her, in fact almost away of life, driving her to a formal education that included Bachelors of Fine Arts and
Masters in History of Arts from India. Her art is a combination of Fine Arts and Crafts and she has developed a style which involves her culture, traditions, aesthetics, emotions and intellect. Her works are noted for elegance and attention to detail and her soul is highly influenced by folk and tribal arts of India - motifs from these reflect consistently in her art. Her works are noted for ornamentation, patterns and attention to details.
In the presented work for Elephant drape, her composition speaks of her heritage, homeland and happiness to work with her hands. The many elements from rural India, the indegenous patterns, fabrics and narratives, the mud roads, the elephant walks, in all of which the the happiness glows. The work speaks of the soil that carries stories.
It is a pleasure to be a part of this glorious exhibit for the Great elephant Migration- draped in heritage.
