Description of Artwork:
Created as a drape for The Great Elephant Migration, this work brings together two beloved guardians of abundance and protection: Lakshmi on one side and Ganesha on the other, each surrounded by gentle elephants under their care.
Set against a lush, fantastical forest, the drape imagines a world where the elephants move safely through an abundant, living landscape, protected by the divine forces of prosperity, wisdom and compassion. The dense foliage is rendered in a vibrant Indian folk vocabulary, drawing particularly from the decorative language of Pattachitra.
Framing both sides are hand-painted bands of Sanskrit calligraphy from the Lakshmi Stotram and Ganesha Stotram, turning the drape into both an artwork and a visual invocation. The flowing script, intricate borders, forests and elephants come together as a celebration of nature, divinity and coexistence.
