Description of Artwork:
This new work brings together two of my paintings, Water Is Mercy and Life Comes from Water, to reflect on water as a source of life and a shared inheritance of all living beings. Across the surface, flowing lines, calligraphy, birds, fish, animals, plants, and water merge into one interconnected landscape. The Arabic calligraphy speaks of water as mercy and blessing, while the creatures moving through the landscape remind us that no life exists in isolation. We all depend on the same rivers, oceans, rain, soil, and living systems. Created in connection with The Great Elephant Migration, coming to Livermore, this work is also a reflection on movement and coexistence. Elephants and other animals migrate in search of water, food, and safe habitat, following ancient pathways that existed long before human-made borders.
For me, the flowing line becomes a metaphor for this connection—a thread moving through water, earth, animals, plants, and human life. When we care for the sources of life we share, we care for one another.
My work is rooted in spirituality, lyrical lines, and layered textures. Through painting, drawing, and mixed media, I explore the possibility of unity—between people, cultures, belief systems, and the natural world.
Each work begins with a line. These lines are both physical and spiritual gestures, emerging through a meditative, repetitive process that fills the surface with rhythm, texture, and energy. The act of making is intuitive and embodied, allowing the work to unfold slowly through accumulation and reflection.
My practice draws deeply from Arabic calligraphy, South Asian miniatures, and folk traditions, alongside Western approaches to abstraction. Over time, I have developed a visual language that bridges Eastern spiritual philosophies with contemporary painterly techniques. I work in evolving series, allowing each body of work to grow organically from the previous one.
My recent work explores mycelial and microbial systems as metaphors for interconnection, resilience, and unseen networks of life. This direction incorporates scientific research alongside my longstanding spiritual inquiry, expanding my process to include both investigation and intuition.
In the studio, discovery is a daily practice. Each work invites me to move fearlessly into the unknown, remaining open to new forms, new visions, and the quiet mysteries that emerge through sustained attention.
