Sophonts are intelligent beings that display a reasoning capacity and intellect at roughly human-level or greater. There are at least five different species living in the Hyperbrasil system, those being dwarves, humans, mallards, marrites, and rats.
Dwarves are a species of humanoids that bear a great resemblance to humans. On average, they are slightly stronger and are about thirty-one centimeters shorter than humans. Dwarves have both male and female sexes, and sexually reproduce.
Dwarves are the second most populous species of sophont in the Hyperbrasil system. They primarily live in Terrisus and in space.
Humans are a humanoid species of sophont that is widespread across the Hyperbrasil system. Humans have both male and female sexes, and sexually reproduce.
Humans are the dominant sophont species in Hyperbrasil, living primarily on Tandua, on Tellus, and in space.
Mallards, or mallard men, are a humanoid species of sophont that resemble various species of ducks. Unlike ducks, they cannot fly. On average, they are about twenty-two centimeters taller than humans and slightly stronger. Mallards originate from Old Terra. Instead of hair, they have feathers. Mallards have both male and female sexes, and sexually reproduce.
Mallards are the fourth most populous species of sophont in the Hyperbrasil system. They primarily live on Tandua, on Tellus, and in space.
Marrites are a rare species of bipedal hexapods. They stand erect and use their upper four limbs the same way humans use their arms. They have a rigid proboscis on the face of the head used for consuming nutrients and liquids. Marrite sex and reproduction remains a mystery. Some scientists speculate that they lay eggs, while others are of the belief that marrites perform mitosis in the eye sockets. Marrites have either two or four eye sockets that protrude from the face about three centimeters, protecting the eyes while limiting visibility. It is unknown what number of eyes denotes. Marrites do not have hair or feathers. Their skin is thick, dark, and tough; of a similar texture to callous human skin. Marrites' origins are unknown. Data about their lifespans is limited, but one marrite is estimated to have rivaled the space whale Boaz the Swift Wander in age.
Marrites are the least populous species of sophont in the Hyperbrasil system. It is unknown whether they have communal gathering places.
Rats are a species of uplifted non-humanoids. They resemble something very similar to the common rat, originating from Old Terra. Details on the uplifting process is nearly completely unknown, except that it was an artificial process done by humans. The first display of rats' intelligence was in 2401, when a rat that called himself Raticus Manicus declared himself of the species 'Rattus Sapiens.' Manicus later became a worshiper of Jim and formed the third branch of Jimnism called the Sect of Rod. The Sect still practices to this day. The average lifespan of a rat is about thirty to forty years. Rats have both male and female sexes, and sexually reproduce.
Rats are the third most populous species of sophont in the Hyperbrasil system. They primarily live in Terrisus, on Tellus, and in space.
