Hydrogen Ion Materials Group

Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. Because of its small size, hydrogen can be readily incorporated into materials, where its interaction with electronic orbitals often alters its properties and, in some cases, turns it into an active site exhibiting outstanding functionalities. We focus on such activated hydrogen in materials—referred to as Hydrogen Ion Materials—and pursue both the creation of new functionalities, particularly in catalysis, and the elucidation of their underlying mechanisms.
