Purpose of modelling

• Ecological modelling - are there protected species or conservation areas vulnerable to water pollution.

• Flood inundation mapping - there are urban areas surrounding the lower Var reach that may be at risk of inundation

• Drinking water

• Inform development of nature-based solutions (NbS) - locations to place NbS to filter pollution and reduce flooding can be identified

Considerations

• Karst geology - highly porous aquifers that will absorb polluted water in hours, not years. Vulnerable regions.

• Important infrastructure

  • CAP3000 - shopping region

  • Airport

  • Stadium

  • Eco Valley - greenspace

• NATURA 2000 - conservation zone

Objectives (and breakdown of tasks)

• Water pollution mapping (research)

  • Identify point sources

  • Identify transport mechanisms

• Hydrological modelling refinement for better hydrograph generation 

  • Gridded representation

    • Discretise catchment model and integrate GCN250m CN map

    • Translate land cover analysis into higher resolution CN map
