Hybrid integrated circuit a complete electronic circuit that is fabricated on an insulting subtracts using a variety of device technologies. The substrate acts as a carrier for the circuit and also has the interconnecting track between devices printed on it by multilayer techniques.
Individual devices, which comprise chip diodes, transistors, integrated circuits, and thick film resistors, and capacitors and which form the circuit function, are attached to the substrate and are connected together using the previously defined interconnecting tracks. Some hybrid circuit may contain monolithic ICs, particularly multi-chip module hybrid circuits. Hybrid circuits could be encapsulated in epoxy, or in military and space applications, a lid was soldered on to the package. Gold or aluminium wire would be bonded from the pads of IC, transistor, or diode to the substrate.
The advantage of the hybrid circuit is that component which cannot be included in a monolithic I.C can be used, e.g., capacitor of large value, wound components, and crystals indicators. The circuit designer is complete freedom in the choice of resistor value in thick film technology. Since the active and passive components are integrated on to a silicon chip using the fabrication process the IC becomes a lot similar.
Thick film technology is often used as the interconnecting medium for Hybrid Integrated Circuit. The use of screen printing thick film interconnected provide advantages of versatility over a thin film all the features size may be the larger and deposited resistor wider intolerance. The composition and dimensions of the resistor can be selected to the desired value.
