I am an archaeologist focussing on human prehistory and climate change. I grew up in Wales, studied at Sheffield and Oxford, and then worked in the UK, Germany, and now Malta. I am lecturer in Mediterranean Prehistory at the University of Malta. From 2019 to 2024 I was group leader (W2) of the Max Planck Independent 'Extreme Events' Research group at the Max Planck Insitute for the Science of Human History (later renamed MPI of Geoanthropology) in Jena, Germany. I am also an affiliated reader at the University of Cologne. I research and teach human evolution and prehistory, with a particular focus on the relationship between humans and Quaternary environmental change.
