Let’s Not Just Talk About Sustainability.
It’s Time to Walk the Talk in Our Conference
We thought through this carefully in our planning and running of the conference. Here are some ways we have chosen to hold sustainability practices.
- One of the reasons we chose to hold this conference in Bhutan is because it is the only carbon negative country in the world. - google it! A tree-planting activity is also planned for delegates to help minimise the impact of the conference.
- To minimise paper usage, all conference information and program materials, where possible, have been communicated through our Facebook page and by email. Ticketing and registration will be done via the Eventbrite app. The conference program and delegate/speaker information, as well as important conference announcements will be via our conference app, which we will share with those who have registered.
- There will be no lanyards and name badges so we will revert to old-fashioned introductions but the conference app also introduces you to people. We won't be giving out delegate bags at the event, so please bring their own bag, paper/notebook and pens. No water bottles will be provided so please bring your own water bottles for refills.
- All catering is vegetarian, using ethically and locally sourced food where possible, and beverages and served in reusable/biodegradable crockery.
- Although a small amount of local Bhutanese alcohol will be available for tasting, the conference will generally be alcohol-free.
- This is not a fly-in-fly-out conference. It is a place you travel to be with you. There is no rush. We've packed mindfulness time in beautiful spaces, because we think universities which once used to be places for us to think, aren't anymore. We've also planned in engagement work with the community and Bhutanese tourism stakeholders, and to give back to Bhutan, because we think it's time, we walk the talk and put our publications into practice. We've also curated FOUR beautiful dinner experiences. So, stay, don't rush, be kind.
