citizenscience.gov say this: "In citizen science, the public participates voluntarily in the scientific process, addressing real-world problems in ways that may include formulating research questions, conducting scientific experiments, collecting and analyzing data, interpreting results, making new discoveries, developing technologies and applications, and solving complex problems. In crowdsourcing, organizations submit an open call for voluntary assistance from a large group of individuals for online, distributed problem solving."
Yes! You need to be human :)
More seriously, participants need to be able to read and write. The next part of the Human Inside Project does not involve literacy, so stay tuned if you know people who would like to get involved but couldn't do this one.
Just click through to the survey form where you'll answer some basic questions about yourself, then you'll get a page with a text written by AI. Your task is to edit that text in whatever way you deem necessary (modification, addition, deletion of words, letters, anything, it's really up to you...) so that in your eyes, the new version reads less like one written by a bot, and more like one written by a human.
Here's the great thing...you can't! Your response will be valuable to this Language Science project because you are human.
Yes please! Do get in touch, and we'll send you an educator pack, including printable versions of the task.
Yes, absolutely. As a participant in this project, and as long as you enter your actual email address, you will receive an email with the results (as they stand) sometime early 2025. This will include figures, graphs, explanations, and an link to a zoom meeting AMA about the project. You will also have the possibility to opt-in to Human Inside #2.
Fair question. Sometimes studies like this do pay a dollar or two. This project would require quite substantial funding, because the idea is to have as many people as possible participate from anywhere in the world.
