Hi there. Human Inside is a multilingual, interdisciplinary, and international research project. As a language scientist and linguistic anthropologist, I am interested in how humans use written language to communicate, particularly on Computer Mediated Communications (CMC) such as social media. I feel it is important to conduct research that addresses, analyses and documents how humans write to each other, especially in an age where we run the risk of losing sight of human written production. As many quite naturally turn to AI for help in editorial chores, the internet is gradually filling up with text that originated in a black box of Large Language Models, not a human mind.
I think AI has the potential to provide amazing help to humanity, I also think a lot has been deployed without forethought, and we need to keep tabs on what makes us human in our language. This is an ambitious collaborative and international project.
I hope to acquire funding to deploy parts 2 and 3, which look at another favourite topic of mine, which is linguistic embodiment, such as in this paper. For now, I'm excited to deploy The Human Inside Project, Part 1: I'm not a robot, as founder and Research Lead for English and French. And I'm delighted that Dr. Lian Chen, and Dr. Yundong Geng have joined as Research Leads for Mandarin, which is superb news for the project. Their excellent translation for 'Human Inside' in Mandarin is 人类在场, which means 'Human Present'.
18/06/24 update: We're delighted to welcome professor Danh-Thành Do-Hurinville onto the project as Vietnamese lead.
12/08/24 update: We're delighted to welcome Huy Linh Dao as Vietnamese lead.
05/11/2024 update: We're delighted to welcome Dana Di Pardo Léon-Henri to Human Inside as English lead
