Welcome to the Lickel Human Relations Lab.
Research in the Human Relations Lab is focused on understanding the dynamics of psychological underpinnings and responses to social issues, including the climate change crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, themes of our research include:
Understanding the psychological, cultural, and political processes affecting perceptions of environmental harm, assignment of collective responsibility for causes and effects of climate change, and support for local, national, and international efforts to adapt and prepare for climate change impacts.
Understanding the impact of different communication strategies on people's responses to climate change and adaptation.
Understanding stress and coping responses to climate change and the relationships between individual and community resilience.
Understanding how Americans are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, including examinations of resilience, trust for disaster support, emotional responses, normative beliefs around non-pharmaceutical interventions (e.g., social distancing measures), and threat perceptions.
