The Roundheads Union team have been active since the club was started in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength. In 2019 the team competed in the UK IGR Northern League until the seasons cancellation upon the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Upon the re-commencement of rugby in 2021 the team competed in the UK IGR North Development League (2021), coming 2nd overall and in 2022, the team made it all the way to the IGR Development league final. 2023/24 brought new challenges to the team, moving out of the development league and competing in the UK IGR Northern League, but in true Roundheads fashion the team competed with the true spirit of the IGR.
Now, in in 2024/25 the team head into a development season in which they hope to encourage more new players to come and be apart of something life changing.
The Union team train on Wednesday nights from 7.30pm to 9pm at the Beavery RUFC rugby club, Beverley.
Joining the Roundheads back in 2022 was one of the best decisions I've made. As someone who's grown up playing rugby but struggled to also combine that with being open as a queer person, a team that was inclusive to people in the LGBTQIA+ community and allies was the perfect fit.
To captain this team of people I now class as some of the closest friends is an absolute privilege. To anyone sitting on the fence or wondering about joining the team, no matter your rugby experience, you're welcome here.
