HAYFIELD SECONDARY SCHOOL PTSA REFLECTIONS PROGRAM
There is no single, agreed-upon definition for “culture,” meaning there will be many interpretations of the theme. Most people think culture means the community of their country of origin. While this is an important part of culture, there are many other parts as well.
We all experience many different cultures. Your family, neighborhood, school, sports team, friend group, club, or community can each have their own ways of doing things. Even the music you listen to, the hobbies you enjoy, or the games you play can connect you to communities with their own traditions, language, values, and unwritten rules!
Culture can be easy to spot in things like holidays, food, clothing, music, language, art, and celebrations. But it can also show up in everyday moments: the way your family gathers, a story passed down by a relative, the way people on your team encourage each other, or the values you learn from your teachers, coaches, friends, and community.
Culture is all around us, and we are all part of it. It influences how we express ourselves, how we connect with others, and how we understand the world. Since each of us belongs to many different groups and has our own experiences, no two people experience culture in exactly the same way.
Think about YOUR culture, and get ready to let your creativity shine!
