Where I went to secondary school, Woodhouse Grammar in Finchley, North London, in the UK, the whole school — pupils and teachers, good or bad singers — would rehearse The Messiah during the autumn term and perform just before Christmas. I went at the age of 11 from soprano, then to contralto, then tenor, then baritone at the age of 17. In consequence, I learned, knew, and loved every note of every piece. It spoiled me for life in a way, because The Messiah doesn't sound right to me unless children sing it. So this video stirs loving memories for me.
