Community members are taking action, and it is important to stay informed, safe, and strategic.
Before You Attend a Demonstration
Know who is organizing. Are they accountable and experienced?
Understand the purpose. What are the goals and demands?
Check safety plans. Are legal resources, security, and support available?
Staying Safe at Demonstrations
Protect your identity. Wear face coverings, avoid identifiable tattoos, and bring extra masks.
Do not go alone. Attend with trusted friends and have a check-in plan.
Know your surroundings. Identify exit routes in case you need to leave quickly.
Stay off the streets. Police look for reasons to disrupt demonstrations, including noise, movement, and crowd control violations.
Be mindful of emotions. Tensions can rise, and agitators or opportunists may escalate the situation. Stay focused to avoid unnecessary confrontations.
Avoid unnecessary risks. If police escalate, know your limits and when to leave.
Be mindful of digital security. Do not share sensitive information online.
Do not talk to law enforcement. Know your rights and remain silent if approached.
Be Strategic
A well-planned action is more effective than a spontaneous one. The media often distorts protests, so staying organized ensures our message remains clear.
Stay informed. Stay safe. Stay committed.
