Stay updated with your fellow Bison and the new trends! (Section written by Abigail Lee and Catherine Miller)
If you’ve been on social media recently, you’ve probably seen countless people thanking their friends for nominating them for the “USC Speak Your Mind Ice Bucket Challenge.” Throwback to the 20-teens, right? While the original “Ice Bucket Challenge” started in 2014 as a way to spread awareness for ALS, this revamp has a different purpose - Mental Health Awareness. The Mental Illness Needs Discussion (MIND) club at the University of South Carolina began this challenge at the beginning of March as a fundraiser for the Active Minds Organization. As the movement has grown, MIND has been able to donate over $100,000 to their cause - according to NBC. We are so incredibly proud of all of our Bison who have participated in something so much bigger than themselves. Mental health and illnesses are so important to talk about, because the more they are discussed, the more people learn, and the less stigmatized they become. The only criteria to participate in this challenge is to be nominated by someone, record footage of the bucket dump, and then nominate your friends. So - we as the HPC Pointer hereby nominate anyone reading this article to participate in the USC Speak Your Mind Ice Bucket Challenge!
Even the editor of the Pointer participated in the ice bucket challenge! Get involved in your community Bison, and go make a difference!
