The HP ENVY 6000 All-in-One is a sleek, buttonless printer designed for the modern UK home. However, because it lacks a traditional LCD screen, knowing its "status" depends entirely on the glowing light bar.
If your HP Smart app cannot find your printer, it is likely because the device is not in Setup Mode. Here is exactly how to reset the network settings and get that purple light glowing.
When you first unbox the printer, it stays in Setup Mode for about two hours. If you don’t complete the installation in that window, the printer "locks" its Wi-Fi search to save energy. You also need to manually trigger this mode if:
You have a new router or changed your Wi-Fi password.
You are moving the printer to a different room or network.
The HP Smart app shows the printer as "Offline" or "Not Found."
Unlike older printers, the reset button on the HP ENVY 6000 is tucked away on the back.
Power On: Ensure the printer is plugged in and turned on.
Locate the Wi-Fi Button: Look at the back of the printer. Near the power cord, you will find a small, circular Wi-Fi button.
The 5-Second Hold: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button for precisely five seconds.
Watch the Light Bar: Release the button. The large horizontal light bar on the front will start to pulse or glow Purple.
Connect Immediately: You now have two hours to open the HP Smart app on your phone or laptop and select "Add Printer."
Pro Tip: If your light bar is glowing Amber, it indicates a connection error. Resetting to Setup Mode (Purple) usually clears this error state.
On the HP ENVY 6000, the "Lighting Pattern" is your only way to communicate with the hardware:
Pulsing Purple: The printer is in Setup Mode and ready to be found by your devices.
Solid Blue: The printer is successfully connected to your Wi-Fi.
Pulsing Blue: The printer is currently connecting to the network.
Amber/Orange: There is a connection issue or a paper jam.
Many UK ISP routers (like the BT Smart Hub or Virgin Hub 4/5) use "Smart Setup" or combined 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. If your printer enters Setup Mode but fails to connect:
Temporarily disable 5GHz in your router settings.
Ensure your phone or laptop is on the 2.4GHz band during the handshake.
Once connected, you can turn the 5GHz band back on.
All ENVY 6000, 6020, and 6030 models have this button, but it is very small. It is located just above or beside the power input. On some newer "e" models (like the 6022e), it may be a small button with a Wi-Fi icon.
If the back button fails, try the "Paper/Cancel" combo: Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons on the top control panel simultaneously for a few seconds until the Power light flashes and the light bar changes.
No. Setup Mode only resets the network configuration. It does not delete any internal firmware data or affect your HP Instant Ink subscription status.
A green pulsing light usually means the printer is busy processing a print job or updating its firmware. Wait for the light to return to solid white or blue before attempting to enter Setup Mode.
Top Tip: If you are using Windows 11, always ensure your Bluetooth is turned ON during the setup process. The HP Smart app uses Bluetooth to "talk" to the printer while it's in Setup Mode before switching over to Wi-Fi.
