Anthems to Ashes

Where his previous album gleaned pop-rock lined with shiny aspirations and bombastic soundscapes, the new EP Anthems to Ashes conveys an unsettled nature through its characters and commentary. “In celebrity we trust” warns HoverHorse in the title track before plowing through observations on cultural norms and conspiracy. 

This collection of songs is a unique musical blend that evokes some combination of Tom Petty, Chris Issac, REM and Death Cab for Cutie, while shining a yellow glow through its distorted and dissonant edges. The music engages with that warm centre of melody and lyric that so often define a HoverHorse song.
