HOUSTON SECONDARY SCHOOL
SCHOOL RULES
1. Students must always respond promptly to the bell.
2. School gate will be closed after the session begins and will be opened at specific intervals. E.g., 09:30hrs.
3. Students should attend school regularly and punctually.
4. Students are not to enter the building until invited in by a teacher.
5. Students are required to vacate the school building and compound immediately after dismissal.
6. No student should leave the compound unless given permission by the head teacher.
7. No student should be found out of his or her classroom during session unless given permission by his or her teacher.
8. No friend or relative is allowed to visit during sessions, except in case of an emergency the visitor must first seek the permission of the head teacher before proceeding to the class.
9. Every student is required to bring a written excused signed by their parents or guardian if he or she has been absent from school. After three (3) days of continuous absence the student must be accompanied by their parents or guardians.
10. Students should not congregate or sit on the rails of the platforms.
11. Students are required to use the bins provided and not litter in the classroom or school compound.
12. The use of electronic devices e.g., cellular phones, MP3 players, Walkman, CD players, games etc. by students is prohibited. Punishments for such offence will be suspension and seizure of equipment.
13. Being in the possession of cigarettes, dangerous weapons, and drugs not medically prescribed e.g., marijuana and drinking alcohol are prohibited. These will be regarded as serious offences and will attract severe sanctions- suspensions, referral to school's Welfare Officer, or Law Enforcement Authorities.
14. Students must be always attired in their uniforms: black shoes, black socks, ties and ribbons for the girls. If for some reason the uniform cannot be worn, permission for the child to be out of uniform must be sought from the Head Teacher.
15. All female students are required to wear green ribbons.
16. Boys must not wear jerseys under their shirts, only vests are allowed.
17. Except for a wristwatch, no type of ornaments or jewellery should be worn by male students this includes gold teeth.
18. The only type of jewellery the female students would be permitted to wear would be wristwatch and a pair of stud earrings. The stud earrings must be not more than 1/2c cm in diameter.
19. Students should not wear pants or skirts at their hips and use large buckle heads.
20. Students should not wear caps of hats while in the building.
21. Hairstyle of both male and female students should be appropriate and well-groomed for school for all times.
GIRLS
· Female students are not to use false hair nor wear bangs.
· Hair ends must be always braided or folded in
· Must wear two (2) ribbon bows
BOYS
· Male students: all facial hair e.g., beard, sideburns and Mustache must be removed.
· Hair on head should not exceed 1cm (about 0.39 in) or half an inch in length with no engravings.
22. The use of nail polish and wearing of long nails by students are not acceptable.
23. Students are required to always speak quietly and courteously. The use of indecent language will be treated as a grave offence.
24. Students who fight and instigate fights in and out of school will be suspended.
25. Students must always show respect for teachers and prefects, no rudeness will be tolerated.
26. Jumping and climbing of school fence is prohibited.
27. Application for records must be made at least two weeks in advance.
28. Students, who damage school property, deface school building, or furniture will be required to reimburse the cost of the damage incurred.
29. No male students should be found in the female washroom and vice versa. The offender will be suspended.
30. Students must wear their skirt or uniform dress 2 inches below the knee.
31. Boys in short pants must also wear their pants 2 inches below the knee.
32. The circumferences around long pants and short pants must be 18 inches.
Penalties / Sanctions
1) Parental contact.
2) Detention before and or after school.
3) In school suspension.
4) Withdrawal or privileges.
5) Cleaning of parts of premises where infraction occurred.
6) Writing and reciting lines.
7) Referral to Counsellor or School Welfare Officer.
8) Reprimand by supervising teacher.
9) Billing of parent for damages to school property.
10) Suspension by the Head Teacher.
11. Denial of certificate or letter of recommendation.
12. Charge filed with proper law enforcement authorities.
