D Day Lunch
A lunch for the D Day 80th Anniversary took place in the Village Hall on Sunday, 2 June 2024. Helen Williamson and her team of volunteers put on a superb buffet of ham, quiche, salads and sweets. Betty Hunt, 103 years, was guest of honour as she worked at a listening station near Harrogate during World War Two. Andrew played the last post on his cornet and we had a minute's silence. £1080 was raised for the Village Hall and £250 for the British Legion. Thanks to all the volunteers and all those who attended for making it a very special afternoon.
Holme Heritage Day – September 2016
It was a lovely sunny day on Sunday, 11 September for Holme Heritage Day. The Village Hall and All Saints Church were both open. A Heritage Walk set off from the Hall at 1pm led by Richard Brook and his dog, Alfie. Over 30 walkers went through the village and took the path up church hill. There was then a stop for everyone to have a look round the church and also climb the tower to see the views and the Saxon carving. The walk then continued along the top of the hill past the WW2 Observation Post to Lock Lane and back to the Village Hall, where there was a welcome cup of tea and excellent cakes. There was also a display by Holme Local History Society showing photographs of historical buildings along the route.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022
A tea dance was held in the Main Hall to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The WI provided the refreshments and Sam Marriage the photographs and music.
Plant a Tree for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022
The Village Hall Committee planted a tree to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy. The tree is planted in front of the wall near the village hall sign. It is a red flowering hawthorn. Thanks to Derek Clayton for planting the tree. The photograph shows Pat Laverack, Chair of the Village Hall Committee and Richard Brook, Vice Chair, with the new tree. We also put up a plaque to commemorate the event.
