Mental Illness
In our society has a stigma around mental health however times are changing. If someone breaks their arm what is the first thing we do? We go to hospitals and we seek out treatment, or if our kid gets a stomach bug it is okay for them to stay home from school. However when teenagers have feelings of being depressed or being overwhelmed most people will brush it off as "A bad day" or "over reacting". Let's start a movement to make mental health just as important as our physical health.
The generally excepted definition of mental illness is the normal functioning of emotional and intellectual abilities.
Having good mental health will be shown in these signs: (resilience)
- Getting along with others
- Can adapt
- Can give and receive
- Able to handle and over come than can be a point of anxiety and frustration
- Control and fulfill desires and impulses in appropriate ways
Mental illness is a disorder just like any other physical disorder that can be made worse many outside forces. This can include trauma, crisis, physical changes in brain chemicals, or even drastic changes in in environment. This is called Situational response. More Info
