We are Girl Scouts and we reach for Gold

What is a Gold Award?

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. Once achieved, it shows colleges, employers, and your community that you’re out there changing the world.

Who started this project?

My name is Taylor S. and I am a girl scout. I have been a girl scout for 13 years starting when I was only 5 years old. I started with my mom by my side as my troop leader. This continued to be the case for the majority of my girl scout career. I have achieved my bronze and silver award and now you're looking at my Gold Award, HOPE. The idea for this project started in my head because of my personal experience living through personal experiences with teenage suicide. My freshman year of high school one of my close friends took his own life and that may of been the hardest thing that I have been through in my 18 years of life. My sophomore year I also had the unfortunate reality of knowing another teen who decided that this world was just not meant for him. Then my senior year. I was in a community of a teenage death. While i did not know the person personally, I did see the devastation of a community that will never leave me. While my Gold Award idea was still in the air this event made it very clear that something needed to change so I set out. I set out to see what one girl could do to help.
