On what should have been a day of celebration, laughter, and togetherness, South Texas was instead met with heartbreak and loss. Sudden and violent flash floods swept through riverside communities and camps on July 4, 2025, claiming the lives of several precious children—lives full of promise, dreams, and light.
These were children who had come to play, to learn, to explore the beauty of nature with the wide-eyed wonder only youth can know. In the face of a disaster no one could have fully predicted, they were taken far too soon. And though we mourn them with heavy hearts, we also remember them—with love, with reverence, and with a steadfast commitment to making sure their stories lead to change.
Each child lost is more than a name on a list or a number in a headline. They were sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, best friends and bright lights in the lives of those who knew them. Their laughter echoed by the water’s edge, and their absence now echoes in our hearts.
In their honor, Hope Floats Initiative stands as a living memorial—a mission grounded in action and remembrance. With every life vest distributed, with every child protected, we carry their memories forward.
We remember.
We grieve.
We act.
May their memories be a blessing and a call to protect every child who dares to dream near the water’s edge.
