This wonderful family and organization came into our lives last year and they brought the fun and support! Take Charge helps promising young people take charge of their lives and reach their greatest potential through college scholarships, mentorship, networking, and leadership training. The young people who go through our programs, in turn, inspire those around them - in their families, their neighborhoods, and their schools – to take charge of their futures. Thanks to the Battiers, we will be able to provide nice winter insulated gloves to each Hope Tree child! THANK YOU, TAKE CHARGE!

Melissa Kreager "hung her own shingle" last year after working in the Estate Planning Nonprofit field for about 20 years as an attorney before retiring right before Covid. In her own words: "During that time, while thinking I wanted to find a new career path, I discovered that I really enjoyed and missed nonprofit work and I organically started helping friends and family with their nonprofits. I finally officially opened my own practice last Summer. My main goal is to make sure nonprofits are formed correctly and set up for success." Melissa was instrumental in guiding us throughout the process of applying to become a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Thanks to her guidance and our awesome cause, we were approved by the IRS in record time! THANK YOU, MELISSA!
Local Charlottean, Nancy Johnson, started making collages during the COVID pandemic. "My hope is that wherever these collages find a home, they will provide a spark of JOY and a ray of HOPE to all." A portion of her proceeds goes to the Type 1 Diabetes Hope Fund that is set up through Atrium Health Foundation. "Anything is possible and to never, ever give up HOPE!" Last year, Nancy donated 50 notepads to go along with our Hope ornaments we give to the parents of the children we spons.

“Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can’t see.” - The Polar Express.
The compassion and generosity our community shares is highlighted for me each year with this project. I am moved to tears seeing how we came together to make an impact we may never see with our eyes, but we will feel in our hearts. I will think of the 130 children and their families in our community who will wake up on Christmas morning (or other holidays) to a huge plaid bag of gifts, helpful items and most importantly hope and a feeling of support, love and respect from their neighbors.
THANK YOU ALL!
“To: My Angel,
Thank you for adopting me for Christmas. One day, I will give back to others and the community, in which you have done to me. Thank you for gifting me more than just a present for Christmas but teaching me of giving to others with love and kindness.”
- 2nd grade girl at Billingsville Cotswold Elementary School (2019 recipient)
