Bishopric Message

Beloved Ward Family,

One of my New Year's resolutions (sparked by having a daughter on a mission) is to keep reading the Book of Mormon this year. Even though we're studying the Old Testament and Pearl of Great Price, Gracie challenged each of our family to set a goal to read the Book of Mormon all the way through, and i am going to accomplish that.

As I've been studying 1 Nephi, one messge keeps standing out to me - and it feels especially timely for all of us: God will provide us a way to do things he asks us to do.

I love the moment in 1 Nephi 4:1-2 when Nephi essentially says - "Alright fellas, let's go get the plates. God is stronger than Laban and all his men and he is going to help us get those plates. We just have to be strong!"

And that's exactly what they did. Nelphi moved forward in faith, and the Lord helped him find a way to accomplish what seemed impossible.

Sometimes the things the Lord asks of us require us to dig deep, just like Nephi did. They can feel hard. They can involve opposition. Often, they aren't accomplished without a struggle. But I know this - God always prepares a way for us to do what He asks us to do.

If we're willing to act in faith, to move forward even when the path isn't clear, we too can be led by the Spirit - just as Nephi was - and accomplish the things the Lord needs us to do.
