Bishopric Message

This last weeks Come Follow Me was awesome.  I especially enjoyed in 2 Chronicles 20, studying the story of King Jehoshaphat.  I was reminded of the Lord's invitation, "The battle is not yours, but God's... Stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord."  Jeoshaphat didn't ignore the danger he faced.  He sought the Lord, gathered his people, prayed, and then trusted God to fight the battle in a way they never could have imagined.

I've also been especially grateul for the spirit in our sacrament meetings lately.  The messages shared by members of our ward have been so thoughtful and centered on the Savior.  Thank you to everyone who has prepared and shared.  Your testimonies are strenghtening our ward family!

Maddie's farewell provided to me such a geat living example of what I had been studying.  As Tyler shared his testimony, I couldn't help but think of Jehoshaphat's example I had read about.  Rather than asking, "Why me?" Tyler has chosen to place his trust in the Lord as he faces the difficult trial of cancer.  That kind of faith doesn't remove the battle, but it invites the Savior into it.

I was equally touched by Maddie's decision to serve a mission.  Choosing to leave home for 18 months while her father is battling cancer is not an easy decision.  Her willingness to trust the Lord's timing and care for her family is a remarkable expression of faith.  I have no doubt that the same Heavenly Father who watches over missionaries also watches over those they leave behind.

We all face battles that seem larger than we are.  Like Jehoshaphat, there are times when we may honestly say, "We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon thee."  I know if we seek the Lord first and obey His promptings, He will strenghten us.  And he will fight battles in ways we could never accomplish on our own.

Thank you for making our ward a place where faith in Jesus Christ is lived, shared, and strenghtened each week.  You guys are awesome!

Love,

Bishop Dave
