What is the 6888?

The 6888 or Six Triple Eight was an army battalion formed in WWII comprised of WACs  (Women's Army Corp) who had volunteered to support their country during war.

Their notability comes as they were the first women's battalion to be deployed overseas.  They served in Birmingham, England and Rouen, France in 1945.  

It was a segregated unit, comprised of women of color.  And they were outstanding!
