Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide, resulting in around 18 million cases of mortality each year. Our lab aims to understand novel signaling pathways underlying the pathophysiology of vascular and heart diseases. We are interested in the cellular mechanisms of atherosclerosis and hypertension, and the molecular pathogenesis of arrhythmias.
Ion channels play critical roles in shaping action potential, excitation-contraction coupling, and secretion of hormones. They are not only important for the normal electrophysiology of excitable cells, but also common targets for therapeutic agents. Our work focuses on the voltage-gated proton channel Hv1 and Hv1-related diseases.
